BRIDGETOWN, WESTERN AUSTRALIA

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Bridgetown and the Marathon Organising Committee I welcome you to the Bridgetown Rotary Blackwood Marathon Relay first run in 1979.

The strength of this event is the willing assistance received from the communities of Boyup Brook, Bridgetown-Greenbushes and our sponsors. Our sincere thanks go to the property owners who provide us with such a magnificent course. The Fire Brigade and St Johns Ambulance Association, Brian Wheatley and his communications crew, the Police Department, the computer operators, stewards, timekeepers, parking supervisors, service clubs, the local shires and other helpers who give so generously of their time and expertise.

The Blackwood Marathon forms part of an extensive programme of events held during the year in Bridgetown/Boyup Brook area. For those who need an excuse to visit our area once again there are events such as Chamber Music to Wood Chopping to Blues. Boyup Brook brings us the Autumn Art Affair and the many functions and activities at the Harvey Dickson Country Music Centre, Rodeo etc.

Along with many other organisations financial circumstances have caused us to review some of our operations. The magnificent prizes will remain, as will medallions for all place-getters. However, it will no longer be possible for all participants to receive a medallion but each will receive a certificate as a memento of their taking part in the event.

All that remains is for you to have safe and enjoyable day. We hope to see you at the finish for refreshmentsand presentations and the traditional Marathon Day Cricket Match. Have a great day and good luck!

Chairman
(Blackwood Marathon Organising Committee)
